With so many major insurance companies and their giant advertising campaigns clamoring for your business, it can be difficult to find which one is right for you and your family.
Two Types
There are two ways to obtain insurance, either through an actual agent or online. More traditional companies such as Area Farm, American Family, and Allstate generally have individual agents who service your business and handle your policy exclusively. Companies like Geico and Progressive are more technology based companies that earn and service your business online or over the phone only, with no direct agent. While both are perfectly acceptable ways of obtaining insurance there are some great differences between the two.
Traditional – Single Agent
Traditionally, if you wanted to grasp an auto insurance policy you would call your family agent and set up an appointment to come into the office. The back to sticking with this type of insurance agency is that you do receive more personalized service. You regain to know your agent, meet with him or her face to face to discuss your needs, and have one specific person to call with any questions or concerns you may have regarding changes to your policy.
While this is definitely helpful in some instances, there are also downfalls. Because agents charge commissions from the actual insurance companies, this is reflected in your payment amount through higher premiums. Also, many people feel that having a direct agent would be an advantage if you are involved in an accident as your agent will just handle the entire process. This is not lawful. Agents are in the business of selling and servicing policies, not claims. Most companies defer their handling of auto accident claims to adjusters who often work in the corporate office.
Online at By Phone
The newest way of handling your insurance is through the internet or by calling a toll-free phone number. With this type of insurance company, you do not have one specific contact but can contact the corporation directly which usually means not talking to the same person twice. Because a lot of these companies run on a call-center environment, they do not have the same operating costs as those with individual agents do. This difference is often reflected by lower insurance premium rates.
Best of Both Worlds
The minute known fact about choosing between an online company or an individual agent is that sometimes you can have the best of both worlds. Some companies, (like Geico) have personal offices in many major metropolitan offices where you can actually go and talk to an agent versus handling everything online. Because they have fewer offices, the effect on your rates is still very grievous. But, by having only a few small offices, these companies can level-headed offer the personalized service most policyholders want.
My Concept As A Seasoned Insurance Sales Agent/Claims Adjuster
My personal remove, as a former claims professional and insurance agent? Go for the savings. Insurance rates go in cycles, but by sticking to a website or 800-number company the amount you will save far outweights speaking to a different person every time. After all, how often do you really talk to your agent? Most companies provide claims service at a corporate level, which means your agent most likely will not handle any accidents you have anyhow.
As always, I advice everyone to check their insurance rates three months before each six month renewal to try to get the best deal. Some years certain companies are the best, other years they are not. But it never hurts to check, and with the invention of internet quoting it is even easier and less time consuming.

A pilot program that is available for California Drivers to purchase low cost car insurance. The California Coarse Cost Automobile Insurance Program (CLACK), satisfies the requirements of the state’s auto insurance requirements. The insurance policy is based on a driver’s household income, driving record, and vehicle purchased value.
California Proposition 103, enacted into law in November 1988, qualifies a Good Driver to derive car insurance from any insurance company, and is entitled to bag 20 percent reduction in car insurance, compared to a non-Good Driver. A Good Driver must be a California driver licensed for three consecutive years, and have no points on driving record. Also, any major driving violations including Driving Under the Influence, could capture the Ample Driver rating. Under Proposition 103, car insurance companies critical factor to calculate insurance rate, must believe operator’s driving safety record, number of miles driven annually, and years of driving experience. Other considerations include, if the vehicle is stored in garage and has security features. Despite the positive aspects for lower insurance rates with proposition 103, drivers should be aware that lower minimum coverage may not be sufficient, to veil any additional liabilities, which the driver would be responsible for out of pocket cost. Additional liability insurance should be considered or purchasing an umbrella policy that would cover most cost of liabilities, above the car insurance policy, and cover any other liabilities. An average umbrella policy provides one million dollars coverage for liabilities, and cost between two to three hundred dollars, a year.
Always recommended to contact several insurance companies or brokers to compare auto insurance rates. Each company calculates their gain rate policy, which is partially based upon their own past losses, and expenses. Through your local telephone directory or Internet can provide names, and telephone numbers. Spending some time on the phone, answering questions, can conveniently obtain price quotes, and save money to get the best rate.
When speaking to a car insurance company, ask if there is any discounts, getting credit for extra driving courses or lectures, having more the one car insured, adding any additional security features to the car, and limiting your driving mileage to and from work only. Inform the insurance agent if you work at home, and if you can pay the premium in one payment per year, rather then in installments, to get a lower premium. Ask if you can make payment by a credit card, because the amount will be billed to you on your next month’s credit card statement, and you maybe entitled to points on the credit card, based on the type of credit card.
When deciding upon a car insurance company, check with the Consumer Complaint Study (CCS) that is published by California Department of Insurance. This will assist consumers on car insurance companies based upon justified complaint study (composite ratio), company performance, and comparison data study. For example, in 2003, the number one rated car insurance company was The Swansea Mutual Insurance Company, that had justified complaint ratio zero, and Number of justified complaints zero.

At a few minutes after noon, Obama was sworn in as president of the United States and commander-in-chief After a few brief words about his humility and gratitude for his new position, he continued by showing his appreciation to now former President Bush, thanking him for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.
The central theme of President Obama’s inaugural address was the notion that America, whilst surrounded in indicators of crisis, remains the most prosperous and powerful of any other nation Relying mostly on artful metaphors, Obama did not take his position in our young country’s history lightly He spoke of ancestors who fought to make our nation what it is these days, those who gave their lives to defend it, and those who are still fighting now.He made reference to himself and all citizens as being a component of a journey set forth by our forefathers and continued by all patriots Said Obama, This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed – why men and women and kids of each and every race and each faith can join in celebration [...], and why a man whose father less than sixty years ago may not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand prior to you to take a sacred oath.Maybe the line that will undergo some of the hardest scrutiny over the coming days is, To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect These words had been an effort to spread a notion of understanding between the United States and the Muslim world Nonetheless, directly following these words he addressed terrorist organizations or those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict He provided to extend tact will need to they be willing to join in dialogue This notion of discussion and possible compromise is certain to garner dissent by quite a few who do not share Obama’s diplomatic values.Though he seemed unmoved by the chilly 29-degree air that had onlookers bundled up in thick parkas and Obama-fronted headwear, he employed numerous weather-based symbolism He spoke of the kind of gathering clouds in America’s economic climate that can deflate the confidence of its citizens who may possibly be seeking shelter from the proverbial storm Borrowing from the words of Thomas Paine, Obama said, Let it be told to the future world…that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive…that the city and the country, alarmed at 1 typical danger, came forth to meet [it].President Obama continued, In this winter of our hardship, let us bear in mind these timeless words With hope and virtue, let us brave once far more the icy currents, and endure what storms may perhaps come. All quotes from Barack Obama’s inaugural address and transcripts published by ABC News. .
